2020 Camps for Ages 11-14

Bryce and Zion Exploration (overnight camping)
Hike, splash, swim, and explore Bryce and Zion National Parks, magical and surreal destinations for the adventurer in all of us. Learn about the geology behind these crown jewels of our nation's park system. On the MNA campus Monday (9-4), in the field Tuesday through Friday.

Dates: June 8-12, Monday: 9-4, Tuesday-Friday in the field.

 

Wild Canyons (overnight camping)
Canyoneer and paddle through the canyons of the Mogollon Rim while studying water resources and riparian ecology. Camp, hike, swim and explore beautiful desert canyons at Sycamore Canyon, Oak Creek, and the Verde River. Don’t forget your swimsuit! On the MNA campus Monday (9-4), in the field Tuesday through Friday.

Arizona Adventure
Get ready for outdoor fun! Join us for bicycling, hiking, swimming, and exploring our local mountains, trails, and lakes. Bring your bike and a sense of adventure.

National Parks
We are fortunate in Flagstaff to be surrounded by so many amazing National Parks and Monuments. Join us for a week of visiting, hiking and learning about the Grand Canyon, Wupatki, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater and Montezuma Castle.

Acting Camp with Flag Shakes (For ages 11-17)
Guided by professional theatre artists of the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, student receive an intensive week of training in Shakespeare’s classical poetic dramas as well as contemporary acting methods, stage combat and improvisation. Workshops and collaborative ensemble-driven exploration culminate in a public performance at the museum for friends and family.

Chaco Canyon (overnight camping)
Architecture, art, astronomy and agriculture make this national park the largest prehistoric trading center in North America. We will explore backcountry trails, the numerous great houses and learn about the night sky in camp. On the MNA campus Monday (9-4), in the field Tuesday through Friday.

Field Archaeologist  
Unlock secrets of the past! By visiting Elden Pueblo, learn how ancient people of Arizona lived during this hands-on exploration of how archaeologists study home building, tool making, food preparation and hunting. Explore ancient houses, art, and make your own prehistoric tools and foods.

North Rim Adventure (overnight camping)
Journey to see one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World—the Grand Canyon! We will visit Lake Powell and learn about the mighty Colorado River. Hike the North Kaibab Trail, camp near the canyon rim, learn about the flora and fauna, and hopefully spot a California condor. On the MNA campus Monday (9-4), in the field Tuesday through Friday.
