Clay in the Kitchen
Explore ancient hand-building techniques while investigating traditional functional forms and their use on the dinner table. Week one create a menu and design bowls, plates, serving dishes, and cups. Week two will focus on surface decoration and preparing a culminating celebration of pottery and food. Family show and potluck celebration on Friday.

Adventures in Archaeology

Paper Extravaganza
Which plants of northern Arizona make the best paper? Find them outdoors and use them to make handmade, local paper. Assemble your papers into a hand-bound book and explore pulp painting and stamping.

Field Archaeologist
Participate in real fieldwork! Learn site assessment, survey, photography, and mapping. Students conduct fieldwork at sites not visited since 1930, when MNA co-founder Harold Colton first discovered them.

WSI: Wildlife Scene Investigators
Spend the week honing observation skills, exploring the landscape, and meeting some of our local wildlife. Learn to investigate wildlife by finding nests, examining feeding remains, reading tracks, dissecting scat, and journaling your notes and discoveries. Field trip on Thursday.

Summer Among the Peaks
Join MNA for SAP’s thirteenth year, exploring educational topics with games, outdoor activities, hikes, art projects, experiments, and overnight adventures. Mondays 9 a.m.–5 p.m. are on MNA’s campus. Tuesdays through Fridays are in the field (unless otherwise specified) camping, discovering, and having fun. Project materials, snacks, and camping costs included. Registrations can be made by the week or for the entire summer.
