Easton Collection Center
The Museum of Northern Arizona broke ground February 2, 2008 on the new Easton Collection Center.  The 17,000 square foot facility will be completed in about one year and will house items from MNA's extensive collections in a stable and secure environment. Construction progress may be viewed on our webcam.

 
Merrill Mahaffey: Interior Landscapes of the West, A Fifty-Year Retrospective
June 22 November 9, 2008

Vast landscapes, sublime beauty, and remote, uninhabited spaces at the heart of the West are all hallmarks of Merrill Mahaffey’s paintings. The exhibit is a unique inquiry into the meaning of western landscapes and their role in American culture at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

During the exhibit, MNA will also be featuring works by Merrill Mahaffey for sale. Preview works for sale here.

At the base of the San Francisco Peaks―an integral part of the Colorado Plateau’s spiritual landscape―MNA’s four festivals highlight the region’s cultures and encourage communication and the exchange of ideas between visitors, educators, and artists. Art, music, performances, and Heritage Insights presentations, together, create cultural understanding and a forum for dialogue.

The Museum of Northern Arizona’s Discovery Program is a gateway into the wonders of the Colorado Plateau. Fifty-four classes are a summer’s worth of creative and meaningful exploration for children 4-18. Taught by experienced educators, these programs offer an exciting range of hands-on learning opportunities about the region’s traditions of fine arts, natural sciences, Native cultures, and ecology. Many Colored Weaves

Flagstaff Cultural Partners (FCP) and the Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) have joined forces to present a new exhibition at the Coconino Center for the Arts. Many Colored Weaves, features selections from MNA’s collection of Navajo textiles. The 36 textiles from both the early and late twentieth century are representative of various regions producing quality works during that period.
 
THERIZINOSAUR – Mystery of the Sickle-Claw Dinosaur

Discover the newest and strangest dinosaur in all of North America. See the real bones in a reconstructed quarry as it was excavated in southern Utah by MNA paleontologists; a mounted skeleton of this one-ton, feathered plant-eater; remarkable artwork that explores its watery world; and the premier of a robotic plesiosaur.

Exceptional outdoor educational experiences discovering and exploring the Colorado Plateau — 130,000 square miles of spectacular mountains, mesas, and canyonlands in the Four Corners region of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. Ventures range in length from a day to a week. Diverse itineraries include hiking, backpacking, river rafting, camping, van tours, and lodge-based excursions on the Plateau. We keep groups small to allow maximum interaction between participants and trip leaders.

MNA to Co-Host 2008 Pecos Conference
August 7-10,2008
For 80 years the Pecos Conference has been a time for Southwestern archaeologists to gather together to discuss in an informal setting the principal issues and new findings of their discipline.

Artist-in-Residency Program
The Artist-In-Residence Program at the Museum of Northern Arizona offers professional writers, composers, and visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline, while immersed in the inspiring landscape of northern Arizona and the Colorado Plateau.

MNA Receives Interim Accreditation
The Accreditation Commission of the American Association of Museums has awarded MNA “Interim Accreditation”. The AAM  Accreditation Visiting Committee consisting of Gary Edson, Texas Tech University; and Molly Lowell, the Mercer Museum have visited MNA and the accreditation process is progressing.

MNA Institutional Planning
Crucial to every museum is an institutional plan that helps guide present and future work. The Museum of Northern Arizona has developed a new institutional plan and invites you to read about and comment on the process.

MNA Adopts Updated Mission, Vision and Values Statement
The MNA Board of Trustees has adopted an updated Mission Statement.
