RSVP to membership@musnaz.org or call 928-774-5211 285. \nAbout this exhibit: Explore the groundbreaking work of Artist Hopid\, a collective formed in the 1970s by five Hopi artists: Michael Kabotie\, Delbridge Honanie\, Terrance Talaswaima\, Neil David Sr.\, and Milland Lomakema. Blending traditional Hopi values and imagery—drawn from farming\, Katsina figures\, ancestral forms\, and everyday life—with contemporary visual styles\, Artist Hopid spoke intentionally to wider\, non-Hopi audiences. Their art is visually dynamic\, often humorous\, and deeply rooted in Hopi cultural knowledge. Drawn from the Museum of Northern Arizona’s extensive collection\, including important new acquisitions\, Artist Hopid Unveiled rotates three times between May 2026 and April 2027\, allowing a greater range of works to be shown across three thematic sections: Tending the Source\, Ancestral Echoes\, and Enduring Images.

SUMMARY:Gunnar Widforss: Master of the Inner Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Alan Petersen presents a talk on the inner-canyon works of Swedish-American artist Gunnar Widforss (1879–1934)\, known as The Painter of the National Parks. Widforss created some of his most celebrated works at the rim of the Grand Canyon between 1923 and 1934\, but unlike many of his contemporaries\, he also hiked deep into the canyon and spent weeks at Phantom Ranch painting lesser-known\, dramatic landscapes. Created en plein air (in the open air) with remarkable skill\, his inner-canyon paintings reflect both his adventurous spirit and deep love for the canyon and are among his finest works. \nPetersen is the Fine Arts Curator at MNA and the creator of the Gunnar Widforss Catalogue Raisonné\, an online record of Widforss’ drawings and paintings. \nThis lecture coincides with our Call of the Colorado Plateau exhibition one view through January 3\, 2027. The talk is included with museum admission. \n

The Sugar Skull Decorating workshops are perfect for kids and adults. You must purchase a $10 ticket in advance for each participant. Held in partnership with Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces\, Celebraciones honors the spirit of Día de los Muertos with heartfelt remembrances and joyful festivities. \nMariachi Agave \nEnjoy cultural dances and music as you explore the brightly adorned ofrendas in the Jaime Major Golightly Courtyard\, each a stunning display of love and memory. Savor delicious traditional foods and deepen your understanding of Dia de los Muertos through cultural presentations. Mariachi Agave from Tucson and Ballet Folklorico de Colores of Flagstaff will bring distinctive sounds and movement to the celebration. Children will delight in the creativity of sugar skull decorating and face painting. \nAs the sun sets on Saturday\, the courtyard transforms into a magical scene for Courtyard After Dark. Witness the glowing ofrendas under the night sky\, indulge in sweet treats and beverages\, and soak in the rich atmosphere. Don’t miss this premier fall festival.
