Lisa Kearsley
Lisa is a river runner, Grand Canyon guide, natural science illustrator, and author. She came to love the Grand Canyon while spending her childhood summers on the North Rim with her father as he studied Kaibab squirrels. She moved to Arizona in the 1980s to earn a master’s degree in biology at Northern Arizona University. Lisa has worked for the National Park Service at Grand Canyon as an interpretive park ranger and as a researcher, studying vegetation trends and the effects of Glen Canyon Dam on river campsites. Her love of river running drew her to Utah’s San Juan River, where she worked as a commercial guide for a number of years and wrote the San Juan River Guide, a comprehensive guidebook for river runners. She found that introducing people to the Southwest is her true calling, and she now focuses on helping people experience the Grand Canyon through trips on the canyon’s rims and on backpack trips. She also is a natural science illustrator.
