Steve Peru

Steve Peru, a native of Morenci, Arizona, moved to Flagstaff to attend Northern Arizona University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social work, and later a master’s in public administration. His career with Coconino County spanned 32 years, during which he held key roles including Community Services Coordinator, Finance Director, Elections Director, Deputy County Manager, and ultimately County Manager. Following his tenure at the county, Steve held leadership roles in nonprofit, for-profit and education sectors, including CEO of the United Way of Northern Arizona and Chief External Affairs Officer/Executive Director of the Coconino Community College Foundation. In 2021, Steve returned to Coconino County as County Manager and has recently transitioned into a strategic role focusing on special projects and partnerships. His leadership training includes completing the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. A dedicated community leader, Steve has served on numerous nonprofit boards and is currently a board member of the Grand Canyon Conservancy and the Museum of Northern Arizona.
