Katsina doll collector Robert Hawk wondered, “how many Hopi katsinas are there?” He embarked on a remarkable project to inventory all published references to katsinas, then worked with Hopi carvers and cultural specialists to produce a comprehensive list including varied spellings. University of Arizona linguist Dr. Kenneth Hill, co-editor of the Hopi Dictionary Project, produced a dictionary of Hopi katsina names, correctly spelled, with English equivalents. MNA plans to publish this dictionary of Hopi katsina names, with some illustrations.
