February 1, 2025 - May 4, 2025
Explore the latest paintings by Flagstaff artist Debra Edgerton. Utilizing microscopic imagery of local algae, Edgerton creates ethereal watercolors that serve as a metaphorical lens to explore social structures and the African American experience. Through these vivid paintings, she examines themes of race, identity, and hierarchical relationships.
“Debra’s watercolor paintings are luminous gems,” says Alan Petersen, Curator of Fine Art. “Yet beneath their beauty lie profound metaphors relating to the experience of Black Americans navigating post-Civil War America as well as present-day circumstances.”
