
Barbara Ann Heerkens
Barbara Ann Heerkens is a graduate student in the Master of Public Health and nutrition program at NAU. Her research interest includes promoting mental health in children, nutrition and health education, and food system and suitability policy. Before attending graduate school, she graduated with two undergraduate degrees in education and biology from NAU in 2018. She has taught biology and anatomy and physiology in high school and middle school for two years. During that time, she also worked as a naturalist and a specialized program director for Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center where she developed specialized place-based camps for their summer programs. This is her second year at the MNA camps where she stives to facilitate a camper centered and inquiry-based learning environment!
