Vincent Schaefer

This New York native arrived at MNA in 1957 to study meteorology, sponsored by the Munitalp Foundation. Through the 1960s he served as an MNA Research Associate. His main position was as Director, Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, State University of New York at Albany. He and students would spend the summers at MNA studying the unique southwestern weather patterns.

By 1970, he’s listed in the MNA Annual Report as Director of the MNA Field School in Meteorology. He also was on the MNA Board of Trustees. His efforts provided funds to build Fleischmann Hall (now called Schaefer) as summer headquarters for visiting students in 1963. The structure provided dorm housing for eleven students, a lab, and an apartment for the director.
