The annual Heritage Festival of Arts and Culture celebrates and showcases the work of Native American artists from across the Colorado Plateau. Each festival hosts a juried art competition open to the festival artists. Monetary awards are presented to first- and second-place winners in 11 categories. A Best of Show award is presented to the most exceptional entry in terms of skill, creativity, originality, and execution. The Spirit Award is given to the artwork that best represents the mission of the Museum of Northern Arizona.
