Archaeology projects

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area contains thousands of archaeological sites reflecting 10,000 years of human history. MNA is collaborating with the National Park Service to identify impacts at as many sites as possible. Common impacts include graffiti and other damage from visitation at sites along the Lake Powell shoreline and in developed areas, trampling by livestock in upland settings, and natural erosion throughout the park. This 6-year project will result in condition assessments for more than 500 sites, nearly one-fourth of the sites known in the park. The goal of the project is to gather information to help the NPS reduce damage to irreplaceable cultural resources and protect them for future generations.
