Navajo Fashion Designer Shows Collection at MNA

July 12, 2013

The Museum of Northern Arizona will be the best-dressed spot in Flagstaff during the Native American Fashion & Jewelry Showcase at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20.

Enjoy a fashion show by Navajo designer Bonnie Wood, whose clothing collection will be enhanced by Native American jewelry hand picked by Museum Shop experts. Hopi musician Ed Kabotie will perform and host the evening in the museum’s enchanting courtyard.

Woodie will present her Native-inspired fashions known for their clean designs, quality construction and beautiful beadwork. “Anything handmade is magical, mystical and a treasure,” Woodie says. Her work infuses the traditional and colorful landscapes of the Dine’ Nation into modern fashion. Woodie was the first Native American to show her line in Milano, Italy.

Ed Kabotie will perform his music, and serve as host of the event. Kabotie is a MNA Artist-in-Residence. His heritage is his inspiration. His vision as an artist is to express the virtues of his Native American cultures. These expressions take the forms of overlay jewelry, watercolor paintings, traditional pottery and English, Hopi and Tewa musical compositions.
