Navajo Rug Auction

September 17, 2013

More than 200 vintage and contemporary Navajo rugs will be auctioned during the 10th Navajo Rug Auction at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Coconino Center for the Arts, 2300 N. Fort Valley Road in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Museum of Northern Arizona and Flagstaff Cultural Partners collaborate to provide this authentic opportunity to learn more about Navajo culture and weavings. Auctioneers are from the R. B. Burnham & Co. Trading Post. The Burnham family has been working in the field of Native American art for five generations.

Weavers and Native American art experts will be on site to discuss and identify handspun, hand-carded and vintage pieces, versus acrylic yarns. Information on how to evaluate and buy Navajo rugs also will be available.

Consignments will be accepted for auction from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Thursday, and Friday, October 17 & 18. The public can begin previewing rugs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Oct. 19, and the live auction starts at 2 p.m. Oct. 19.

Rug styles include Two Grey Hills, Ganado, Teec Nos Pos, Ye’ii, Pictorial, Wide Ruins, Storm, Sandpainting, Eyedazzler and more.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will provide support for Flagstaff Cultural Partners and the Museum of Northern Arizona.
